Brook Green Supply responds to the Government's Autumn Budget, welcoming measures aimed at managing energy costs and improving the competitiveness of UK industry.

Energy affordability was a central focus of the Autumn Budget, with several measures announced to address the cost pressures facing UK businesses.

While much of the immediate relief is directed towards households, the Government has also recognised the challenges facing industrial and commercial energy users.

With UK industrial energy prices among the highest in Europe, the decision to pause additional policy costs until a comprehensive Cost Control Framework is introduced represents a positive step towards improving affordability. Plans to remove the Gas Shipper Obligation are also welcome news for business gas consumers.

What happens next?

As further details of the Budget emerge, Brook Green Supply will explore the implications for industrial and commercial energy users through our regular policy and regulatory reports and market update webinars.

In the meantime, businesses can learn more about the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme, including eligibility and potential savings, in our BICS guide.

“For too long, high energy costs have put UK businesses at a competitive disadvantage. We welcome the new Cost Control Framework, and a moratorium on new policy costs being added to bills until its introduction. It is important that the new Cost Control Framework addresses both domestic and non-domestic customers to support bringing energy costs down for good, and we look forward to engaging with policymakers on the finer detail. We are particularly encouraged by the continued commitment to the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme (BICS), which will provide meaningful relief for eligible businesses from April 2027. We look forward to further reforms that will help deliver lasting reductions in business energy costs and improve the competitiveness of UK industry.”
